Have you ever thought about playing the same song with more than one iPhone device to sum up their loudspeakers? That would require pressing the play button exactly the same time... With this app you can learn how synchronization works with mobile devices applying the so-called firefly synchronization taken from nature.

This app makes your iPhone device able to mimic the mating ceremony of the asian fireflies. These lightning bugs periodically emit flashing lights and also respond to the flashes of others to achieve a perfect synchrony. Instead of flashes, your iPhone device will use a buzzing sound and the microphone to detect other iPhone devices running this app. Upon reaching synchrony, all the devices will start to play a previously selected song from you music library (or the default song Cricketslide by Krishan).

This phenomena is called firefly synchronization which is one of the main research topics of the Austrian research cluster Lakeside Labs. If you are further interested in technology and research, please visit us at
